A wonderful castle rises in the green near the old town of Bolzano: Mareccio. Already in the 12th century, the field name "Moretes" appears which gave its name to the castle - built later on - and the noble family of its first owners. In the 13th century, only a massive donjon stood amidst vineyards which was enlarged later on by a curtain wall.

Castel Mareccio il castello
A castle located in the historic center of Bolzano, it was more of a residence rather than a defense construction, although it has a watch tower. The oldest part of the castle was built during the 13th century. It was then modified by members of the Römer family, who transformed it in a Renaissance castle between 1560 and 1570.
